SAY IT AS IT IS
ALL IN THE NAME OF FASHION.
We live in Africa. I am Kenyan. At times, I am proud to be one. At times, I
pity myself for being one. Anyway, as they say, GOD'S work has no mistake. I
grew up in the 90’s, let me just call it old school era. It was fun growing up,
assimilating to the music and fashion trends that came aboard a ship from the
white man's land.
I remember at the time, wearing baggy jeans and ladies wearing skin tight
and blouses. That’s just them days.
Let me come to post millennium, as a true and proud African. I believe we
have cultures, they may vary, but at the end of the day, I believe no sane
parents who love to see his son come home with a wife to be who has donned an
excuse of a birthday suit protector (cloth). Imagine, meeting your boyfriend's
parents thighs and butt exposed?!!! What do you think runs in their old age
minds? Mmmh, this just part of the list. Or more harshly and blunt- A
HOOKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really, how do you even contemplate walking outside skimpily clad like
you are going for a rodeo? Do you deserve my respect? NO!! Respect starts with
you. It is earned. Just in short, my dear African sisters, don’t just ape
everything you see in the telly or internet. Too bad blind worship of the west
(I got to know the term from Chinua Achebe's 'A MAN OF THE PEOPLE BOOK') is in
ICU. But as they say, no condition is permanent. Sense may be knocked into them
heads.
Apart from the respect factor, we all know men are visual. What draws the
line between men is that there are those with self control and others aren't.
This can lead to rape and possible prosecution for the offender. We just need a
peaceful society where everyone can just correlate with one another. Just to
prevent any sadness and harm. African ladies ladies, dress RESPECTABLY. We
don't need temptations and embarrassments resulting from you being stripped
down, by irritated public. That’s just the truth, AS IT IS.
